5. The activities of the Hungarians living in Latin America today

In Latin America the work of the members of the Atacama Expedition is outstanding. They carry out observations since 2014 in the Ojos del Salado region. The members of the expedition are: Balázs Nagy, Zsolt Heiling and Péter Kálló. Their objective is to observe the region of Ojos del Salado, which is the highest desert in the world and is located in the Dry Andes, which extends between the borders of Peru and Argentina. In the course of their work, they examine the effects of global warming. Balázs Nagy, geographer, is a lecturer at the Eötvös Loránd University of Hungary, and is the main editor of the magazine Földgömb (Globe). He has directed three expeditions so far. Zsolt Heiling is the scientific manager of the Atacama Expedition, he operates the measurement instruments, based on whose data long-term changes can be demonstrated. Péter Kálló, photographer of the expedition, in the documentation of changes in the surface, he uses drones whose recordings make it possible to create 3D terrain models. (Peru, Argentina)
