Hungarian organizations in Argentina

The Hungarian community in Argentina has 19 associations and 4 registered ecclesial communities in the country. The following associations have the largest number of members: Hungaria Association, Association of Hungarian Catholics, Hungarian Choir of Valentin Alsina and the Hungarian Society of Wilde. All 19 associations are members of the Federation of Hungarian Institutions. This organization coordinates and supports its members.

In the building of the Hungarian Association several Hungarian institutions operate. For example, the Zrínyi Youth Circle, where voluntary parents teach the children every Saturday. The Scout House also operates there, and the activities are also held every Saturday. In this same building, the largest Hungarian library, the Book Lovers Club (Könyvbarátok Klubja) can also be found, where those interested in Hungarian literature can choose between 7000 books. There the Coral Hungaria Choir and the Regős Folkloric Dance Ensemble have their rehearsals.

San Ladislao School (Buenos Aires): Founded in 1966 by the Jesuit Father József Pesti. It is a private school that has preschool, primary and secondary school sections, and among its owners there are members of the Hungarian community to this day. Although the students of the school are Argentineans, each class studies subjects related to Hungary. Also, the Hungarian traditions of the tableaus (a board in which the portraits of the classmates of a school are grouped when they finish their studies) and the "farewell" (parade of students who finish their studies in an education center) were introduced.

San Esteban School (Bariloche): started its operation in 1985, as a primary and secondary school. Its founders are Hungarians. They teach Hungarian dances.

The Hungarian Choir of Valentin Alsina and the Hungarian Society of Wilde were founded at the beginning of the 20th century, they carry out their activities since then, a large part of their members are already older. As for the elderly, the Hungarian community in Argentina is operates a Hungarian Aid Association and a Third Age Center, where they assist Hungarian elders in need.

In order to inform the Hungarian community in Argentina, the Hungarian Journal of Argentina (Argentin Magyar Hírlap) is published monthly in Buenos Aires. Formerly it was titled Hungarian Journal of South America, and the editor was Adorján Czanyó, however, after the death of the editor it ceased to work for a while, and from 2005 is published as Hungarian Journal of Argentina (Argentin Magyar Hírlap).

The preservation of religion is also important for the Hungarian community. This is manifested in the fact that the Association of Hungarian Catholics in Argentina is the second largest after the Hungaria Association. Its headquarters is the Mindszentynum, here Hungarian linguistics and music are taught to young people, and catechesis is also carried out.
